Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located many other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say preliminary tests suggest the substance was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not aware of any harm in relation with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for information.
An important representative stated the vandalism made him speechless and had to be resolved promptly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
